Beacon can be used by DoD primes to accelerate the adoption and implementation of CMMC. We’ve spoken with a few DoD prime contractors who have indicated they lack an adequate system to quickly assess the current state of their supply chain as it relates to CMMC. More specifically, they have very little visibility into how prepared, or more likely unprepared, their suppliers are to achieve the certification level required by CMMC. The current strategy, as told by one OEM, is to send out a CMMC preparedness spreadsheet to all their suppliers. The supplier will be asked to complete the questionnaire and send it back to the OEM, at which point a team of people will pour through the responses and insert the data into some database/system.
We have a better, more modern solution. Using Beacon, a subcontractor can share their CMMC readiness assessment and progress with a prime, who can then log in to Beacon and instantly see the status of all subcontractors sharing with them. Primes can easily see where critical parts of the supply chain are unprepared for CMMC, and prioritize when to work with suppliers to help them obtain their certification. The goal of Beacon is to help DoD primes ensure that their supplier base is adequately prepared as more and more DoD contracts include CMMC requirements.
